Rescue launch ORC 140.EVO
As the NSRI rescue fleet is quite disparate and old, the NSRI members have wished to equip the fleet with a model corresponding essentially to their naval needs.
The criteria were as follows:
Tasks
. Departure in the emergency.
. Fast transfer to the zone in good safety conditions.
. Search day and night on disaster zone.
. Recovery in the water of several castaways by lifting gear.
. Reception for the first care of the shipwrecked persons.
. Possible reception of polytraumatized in good conditions.
. Rescue response combined with helicopter intervention.
. Clear rear deck area for helicopter hoist operations.
. Exterior steering with a lookout equipped for night operations.
. Rescue response in rough sea conditions.
. Berthing boats and ships facilitated by a shock-absorbing defense belt.
. Towing medium-tonnage ships from a bollard.
Specifications
Bernard Shipyards received an order for 2 self-righting and unsinkable ORC140.EVO rescue vessels with the following characteristics:
. Monolithic polyester hull.
. Semi-planing hull with bilge with strakes and rostrum to reduce nose dive in rough seas and bring comfort in bad weather.
. Polyester foam sandwich for the bridge and wheelhouse.
. Wheelhouse on flexible mountings.
. Aluminium rigging
. Overall length: 14,80 m
. Overall beam: 5.44 m
. Main engines: 2 x 485CV
. Crew: 06
. Shipwrecked persons capacity: 24
. Maxi Speed: 28 knots, Cummings engines
. Search speed: 5 to 8 knots
. Autonomy: 250 nautic miles
History
After several technical visits to the five selected European shipyards,
the NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa) has selected
Bernard Shipyards for the construction of its two new rescue boats:

. The technical ability to fully realize a rescue launch, including thanks its design office and employees specialized in polyester, electricity, mechanics and carpentery.

. Numerous references in the world such as: Germany - Belgium - Norway - Morocco - Mayotte - Antilles - New Caledonia - France.
Following the reception of the first rescue boat, the BERNARD Shipyard received the congratulations of the NSRI management and also of the entire crew who made the transfer of vessel from Durban to Cape Town (South Africa).
